COMMERCIAL RETAIL LIGHTING
WE DESIGN LIGHTING FOR STORES THAT ENHANCES PRODUCTS, ARCHITECTURE AND BRAND IDENTITY
“In retail spaces, lighting helps guide customer attention, showcase products and shape brand perception”
LIGHT AS PART OF THE RETAIL SPACE
A modern store is not simply a place where products are displayed. The interior, navigation, merchandise presentation and brand identity create a unified environment in which lighting plays a key role.
Professionally designed lighting helps present products attractively, properly reveal their color and texture, emphasize display areas and create a comfortable atmosphere for customers.
NLT Trade designs lighting based on the store format, product categories, interior architecture, brand identity and customer journey.
DIFFERENT RETAIL — DIFFERENT LIGHTING NEEDS

FASHION & FOOTWEAR
High color rendering CRI 90+ helps accurately reproduce the colors and textures of fabrics and materials. Particular attention is paid to fitting-room lighting, where customers make their final purchasing decision.

COSMETICS & PERFUMERY
Accurate color rendering is essential for cosmetics and skin tones in tester areas. Accent lighting helps highlight product displays and checkout areas.

FURNITURE & INTERIORS
Uniform illumination of furniture surfaces helps accurately reproduce materials and colors, while accent and decorative lighting creates a comfortable atmosphere and emphasizes interior compositions.

BUILDING MATERIALS
Accurate reproduction of materials and uniform general lighting are combined with accents for laminate flooring, porcelain tiles, wallpaper and other finishing materials.

ELECTRONICS & APPLIANCES
Uniform lighting and a neutral color temperature create a clean, modern visual environment. Linear and geometric lighting solutions can reinforce the technological character of the interior.

STATIONERY
Uniform lighting, high color rendering and appropriate color temperature help products appear bright and natural while maintaining visual comfort throughout the store.
Each retail format has its own requirements for the presentation and lighting of products. NLT Trade considers the characteristics of the merchandise, finishing materials and key functional areas when developing a lighting solution for a specific property.
PRECISE LIGHTING FOR PRODUCTS AND SPACE
The result depends not only on the number of luminaires, but also on the correct light distribution. We select the lighting distribution, mounting height and positioning of luminaires to achieve the required illuminance and present products accurately.
For commercial retail, we primarily use luminaires with a high color rendering index CRI 90+, ensuring the natural reproduction of colors and textures.
Lighting calculations help achieve the required illuminance and light distribution without excessive equipment.
FITTING ROOM LIGHTING
In fitting rooms, lighting directly influences the customer’s perception of clothing and appearance. Uniform lighting from the front and sides helps avoid harsh shadows and distortion of the figure.
Proper positioning of light sources helps ensure natural color rendering and a comfortable perception of the customer’s reflection.
For stores without fitting rooms, this principle can also be applied to other areas where customers evaluate products in relation to their appearance.
FLEXIBLE RETAIL LIGHTING
Retail spaces change together with product ranges: collections, displays and equipment layouts are updated. Therefore, the lighting system should be able to adapt to these changes without requiring a complete reconstruction of the entire store.
We design these systems so that lighting can be easily adapted to current needs while maintaining the required lighting parameters throughout the retail space.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What effect does lighting have on product perception in a store?
Properly designed lighting helps highlight products, naturally reproduce their colors and textures, and create a visual hierarchy within the space. Accent lighting directs customer attention to key areas, collections and displays.
What color rendering index is required for commercial retail?
For most retail spaces, luminaires with a high color rendering index of CRI 90+ are recommended. For fashion, cosmetics, furniture stores and other categories where color accuracy is particularly important, lighting quality requirements are determined individually during the design process.
How should fitting-room lighting be designed?
Lighting should be positioned so that the face and figure are illuminated evenly without harsh shadows. Overhead lighting should be avoided, with light directed toward the customer from the front or sides.
Can lighting be adjusted when retail equipment is rearranged?
Yes. Track systems and adjustable luminaires make it possible to change the direction of light when displays or layouts are updated without completely reconstructing the lighting system.
What information is required to develop a store lighting project?
A floor plan, retail equipment layout, ceiling heights and information about product categories are required for the design. Interior materials or visualizations and brand requirements can also be provided. Any missing information is clarified during the initial project discussion.
